Why we carry it
Acid Crab is the chillable red the shop can't keep on the shelf. It's a Negroamaro from Produttori di Manduria — the historic Puglian growers' cooperative — bottled at a lower alcohol and brighter acidity than most Salento reds. Drink it cold (yes, really, 20 minutes in the fridge), drink it Tuesday night, drink it with the steak salad or the pizza or absolutely nothing. Puglia in a $22 bottle, no overthinking required.
About the wine
- Grape: 100% Negroamaro — the ancient Salento varietal, sun-warmed, generally heavy in this part of the world. Produttori bottles a lighter, faster-drinking expression here.
- Region: IGT Puglia, sourced from Manduria in the Salento peninsula — the heel of Italy's boot.
- ABV: 13% — moderate for a Negroamaro.
- Style: Bright, fresh, low-tannin chillable red. Built around fruit, not extraction or oak.
- Tasting notes: Lively black cherry, cherry, blackberry on the nose, then hints of wild undergrowth and bark. Juicy and light on the palate with a clean finish.
- Serve: Lightly chilled (55–60°F / about 20 minutes in the fridge from room temp). A water tumbler is fine. Don't fuss.
The perfect chillable red for the season
When the weather warms up, most "summer reds" feel like compromises — too tannic, too jammy, or too thin. Acid Crab solves that. The Negroamaro fruit is generous enough to feel like a real red, but the alcohol stays moderate (13%) and the acidity is high enough to keep the wine refreshing when it's chilled. Sweet spot: 55°F. Pair with grilled vegetables, tomato-forward pastas, charcuterie, pizza, or just a cold glass on the porch.
About Produttori di Manduria
Produttori di Manduria is a growers' cooperative founded in 1932 in Manduria — the heart of Primitivo country in Salento, Puglia. The co-op pools grapes from member growers across the region, focusing on the indigenous varieties that define southern Italian wine: Primitivo and Negroamaro above all. They're known for serious, structured Primitivo di Manduria DOP releases — and bottlings like Acid Crab show the lighter, more playful side of what these old vines can do.
Single bottle or case
Two ways to buy: single bottle ($22) or case of 12 at 10% off ($237.60). Customers stocking the porch fridge for the season tend to go straight to the case — it's the lowest-friction summer red we carry. Pickup at the shop, local Chicago delivery, or nationwide shipping (case of 12 ships at 60 lbs).
