2021 Domaine Specht Riesling 750ML

$20.00
The 2021 Domaine Specht Riesling comes from one of Alsace's most meticulous growers, a family estate in Katzenthal that's been farming the steep, granite-laced slopes of the Grand Cru Wineck-Schlossberg and surrounding terroirs for generations. Domaine Specht works biodynamically, which shows in the precision and energy of this wine — nothing here feels manufactured or smoothed over for mass appeal. 2021 was a cooler, more classically structured vintage in Alsace, and that shows up in the glass as brighter acidity and a leaner, more mineral-driven profile than the riper vintages the region has seen in recent years. Expect a pale, almost greenish-gold color and a nose that leads with white flowers, crushed stone, and citrus pith before moving into orchard fruit — think Meyer lemon, white peach, and a touch of green apple. On the palate it's dry to off-dry, taut, and layered with a chalky, saline minerality that's a hallmark of granite-soil Riesling. The finish is long and precise, with a slight electric tingle rather than overt sweetness. This is a Riesling built for the table, not just sipping. Its acidity and restraint make it a natural with richer, fattier dishes — think roast chicken with lemon and herbs, pork schnitzel, or a good charcuterie board heavy on pâté and mustard. It also shines with Alsatian classics like choucroute garnie, or go further afield with Thai curries, sushi, or a simple bowl of moules frites. If you're someone who finds domestic Rieslings too sweet or too flat, this is the bottle that resets your expectations for the grape. We don't carry a lot of Alsace on our list, but Specht's wines are the kind we go out of our way to find — honest, terroir-driven, and built to age if you've got the patience. At Off Premise, we think the 2021 vintage in particular is drinking beautifully right now, with a few more years of development still ahead of it.
