2023 Dom. Prudhon Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Blanc, Sur Gamay, AOC

White Burgundy that overdelivers. The Prudhon family has farmed Saint-Aubin since 1945, and this premier cru sits on a roughly ¾-hectare parcel on a southwest-facing hillside overlooking the hamlet of Gamay — right next door to Puligny-Montrachet, but at a fraction of the price. 100% Chardonnay from a mix of 20- and 60-year-old vines on classic clay-and-limestone soils, fermented and aged 12 months in barrel with a restrained touch of new oak (around 20%). The "Sur Gamay" parcel is the deeper, more honeyed of Prudhon's premier crus — expect citrus and orchard fruit, flinty minerality, dazzling acidity, and just a whisper of creamy oak. Lovely now with a chill, but built to reward a few years in the cellar. A near-perfect Puligny stand-in for roast chicken, scallops, or a wedge of aged Comté.
