2023 Domaine Morey-Coffinet Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Fairendes
$155.00
The 2023 Domaine Morey-Coffinet Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Fairendes comes from a parcel within Morgeot, planted to Chardonnay in 2017 and located just south of the village of Chassagne-Montrachet, adjacent to the esteemed Les Champs Gains vineyard. This premier cru bottling represents the Morey-Coffinet family's commitment to sustainable, organic, and biodynamic farming practices, certified by Ecocert, and captures the precision of young vines rooted in fine clay-limestone soils that define the southern slope of this Burgundian appellation. Thibault Morey-Coffinet farms seventeen hectares across Chassagne-Montrachet and neighboring appellations, working the estate his family has cultivated for generations in the Côte de Beaune. The Les Fairendes parcel lies within the larger Morgeot climat, a premier cru zone known for soils that combine powdery limestone with a seam of clay that retains moisture and lends weight to the wine. The estate follows biodynamic principles in the vineyard and ferments with native yeasts, then ages the wine in French oak barrels with thirty percent new wood to frame the fruit without obscuring the site's mineral backbone. The 2023 vintage delivers notes of white peach, lemon pith, and wet stone, with a saline finish that reflects the limestone bedrock beneath the vines. The oak integration is subtle, allowing the Chardonnay's natural acidity and texture to lead. This bottle pairs cleanly with roasted chicken, grilled turbot, or a plate of comté aged eighteen months. Open it now with an hour of air or cellar it through 2030 to watch the wine gain complexity as the young vines deepen their root systems.
