2023 Saint Hill Posh

$30.00
The 2023 Saint Hill Posh delivers something rare: an indigenous Croatian white with serious international pedigree behind it. Saints Hills tapped Michel Rolland — the Bordeaux consultant whose fingerprints are on cult wines from Pomerol to Napa — to guide their work with Pošip, Dalmatia's most celebrated native white grape. The result is a wine that honors the variety's coastal roots while achieving the kind of texture and balance that makes critics pay attention. Pošip has grown along Croatia's Adriatic for centuries, thriving in the limestone soils and Mediterranean sun of the Dalmatian islands and mainland. It's a grape with natural weight and aromatics, capable of both freshness and richness depending on how it's handled. Saints Hills ferments and ages this wine in concrete for six months, a choice that preserves the grape's fruit purity and vibrancy without the vanilla or toast you'd get from oak. The 2023 vintage pours a clear gold and opens with layered aromas of ripe apricot, mango, and citrus, underscored by honey and dried fig. On the palate, it's generous but not heavy. Peach, apricot, and tropical notes of pineapple carry through, lifted by a fresh line of acidity that keeps everything in balance. The finish is long and distinctive, with a bitter-sweet twist that's part of Pošip's signature — that hint of almond skin and citrus pith that makes you reach for another sip. It's a texture-driven white with enough structure to handle real food. Pair it with grilled white fish, shellfish, or risotto. It's excellent with roast chicken, richer preparations of seafood, or soft cheeses. This is a wine with a devoted following among sommeliers and collectors who seek out serious expressions of indigenous varieties. At Off Premise, it's one of those bottles that bridges the gap between everyday drinking and something you'd cellar for a year or two to see how it evolves.
