Domaine des Croix Beaune 1er Cru Les Cents Vignes 750ml

$140.00
This 2023 Beaune 1er Cru Les Cents Vignes comes from one of the Côte de Beaune's most historically significant vineyard sites, a southeast-facing parcel whose name translates to "hundred vines" — a nod to how many different growers have long held small parcels within its boundaries. Beaune itself doesn't get the same name recognition as Volnay or Pommard, but Les Cents Vignes is consistently one of the appellation's standout crus, prized for producing Pinot Noir that's both generous and structured without tipping into heaviness. 2023 was a vintage that rewarded patience and careful site selection in Burgundy. After a wet spring, the growing season turned warm and dry, giving growers fruit that's ripe and expressive but still retains the acidity that makes red Burgundy worth cellaring. In this bottling, that translates to a wine with real mid-palate depth — red cherry, raspberry, and dried rose petal up front, with an undercurrent of baking spice and that telltale Beaune earthiness that keeps things savory rather than fruit-forward. Tannins are fine-grained and the finish has good length, with enough grip to suggest this will keep developing nicely over the next five to eight years, though it's already drinking well if you're inclined to open it now. Serve this one slightly below room temperature, in a decent-sized glass that lets the aromatics unfurl. It's a natural match for roast chicken with thyme, duck breast with a fruit-based sauce, or a simple mushroom risotto — anything with some earthy, umami weight to meet the wine halfway. Soft, washed-rind cheeses work well too if you're doing a cheese course. We don't see a ton of Beaune 1er Cru move through Off Premise at this price point with this kind of pedigree, so if you're building out a Burgundy collection or just want to understand why this commune deserves more attention, this is a smart bottle to grab.
