Durnberg Gruner Veltliner 'Falkenstein'

$25.00
Weingut Durnberg is based in the village of Falkenstein, roughly 70 kilometers north of Vienna in the Weinviertel, Austria's largest wine region stretching between the Danube and the Czech border. The estate is run by Christoph Korner alongside partners Matthias Marchesani and Georg Klein, three genuine wine enthusiasts who share a vision of wines that are at once traditional in character and precise in execution. The vineyards sit at high elevation on a mix of limestone and loam, the classic soils of the Weinviertel, and all farming is guided by a commitment to sustainable viticulture. The Falkenstein is their benchmark Gruner Veltliner, the wine that most directly expresses the character of their home village and the region's distinctive style. Pale chartreuse yellow with silver reflections. The nose is clean and inviting, with green and yellow apple, citrus blossom, a whisper of meadow herbs, and a delicate hint of blossom honey. On the palate it is dry, juicy, and refreshingly light-footed, with lemon zest, ripe pear, and a touch of exotic fruit giving way to the variety's signature white pepper spice on the mid-palate. Cool mineral notes from the limestone soils run through the finish, which is clean, dry, and genuinely moreish. The acidity is bright and precise without being sharp, keeping the wine lively and easy to return to.
