Gavalussa Gavi 750ML
$22.00
The 2025 Gavalussa Gavi lands fresh off a growing season that gave Piedmont's Cortese grape exactly what it needed: warm days to ripen, cool nights to hold onto acidity. Gavalussa works out of the Gavi zone in southeastern Piedmont, where Cortese has been the local grape for generations, long before Gavi earned its DOCG status and international following. This isn't a wine chasing trends — it's a straightforward, well-made expression of a grape that doesn't need much dressing up to shine. Expect the classic Gavi profile: pale straw color, bright citrus (think lemon pith and green apple), a touch of white flower on the nose, and a mineral, almost saline finish that makes you reach for the next sip. The 2025 vintage shows that tension between ripeness and freshness clearly — there's fruit here, but it never tips into flabby or soft. Acidity stays front and center, which is exactly what you want from a wine built to sit alongside food rather than dominate it. Serve this one cold, closer to 45-48 degrees, and let it warm slightly in the glass to open up those floral notes. It's a natural with raw bar offerings — oysters, clams, a simple crudo — but it also handles richer seafood dishes like branzino or a lemony risotto without getting overwhelmed. If you're doing an antipasto spread with fresh mozzarella, prosciutto, and marinated vegetables, this is your bottle. It also works as a patio pour on its own, no food required, which says something about how well-balanced it is. Gavi doesn't always get the attention Soave or Pinot Grigio does, but bottles like this one make the case for why it should. We picked up the 2025 Gavalussa at Off Premise because it delivers what Gavi is supposed to deliver — clean, precise, food-friendly white wine — without any unnecessary markup for a fancier label. Good for a Tuesday, good for a dinner party, good any time you want something crisp that still has something to say.
