As the economy grew, barley faded from significance, and surpluses began to accumulate. Hwanggeum Bori saw something worth rescuing. Founded in 2004, the producer set out to rehabilitate barley's reputation, sourcing sustainably grown heirloom golden barley from local farmers and crafting it into a premium single-grain soju. The result is a spirit that manages both complexity and restraint: excellent body and a smooth, rounded texture, with stone fruit on the nose and subtle grain notes running underneath.
