Il Borro Borrigiano Toscana
$26.00 · Sold out
Il Borro Borrigiano Toscana is a Sangiovese-Syrah blend from the Valdarno valley, a historic corner of Tuscany that's been producing wine since the 1400s but sits outside the Chianti Classico spotlight. The estate was revived in the 1990s when Ferruccio Ferragamo acquired the property, and Borrigiano represents their approachable entry point, built for weeknight drinkability rather than cellar aging. The Sangiovese provides the structure and bright red cherry core, while the Syrah adds mid-palate weight and peppery spice that keeps the wine engaging without demanding ceremony. Il Borro farms sustainably across the estate, working with clay and limestone soils that define the Valdarno's character. The valley benefits from cooling influences provided by elevation and proximity to the Arno River, which helps retain freshness even in warm vintages. The Sangiovese is fermented and aged in a way that preserves its lifted acidity and refines the tannins rather than extracting grip, while the Syrah contributes body and spice without overwhelming the blend's Tuscan identity. The result is balance in the glass rather than flashy concentration, a wine that tastes distinctly of its place without requiring planning or study. The wine pours a ruby color with purple edges, leading to bright red cherry fruit and those peppery spice notes from the Syrah. The acidity stays lifted, the tannins are refined, and the finish doesn't linger heavily, making this incredibly food-friendly without demanding a specific pairing. It works equally well with roast chicken, pizza, pasta with red sauce, charcuterie spreads, or grilled sausages. Pour it slightly cool, around 60 degrees, especially during summer months when you want red wine character without the heaviness. This is Tuscany for a Tuesday, versatile enough for casual dinners but still showing the regional hallmarks of Sangiovese-based blends. In stock at Off Premise in Lincoln Park.
