Il Muro Chianti Riserva DOCG

$25.00 · Sold out
Two hundred years of Pancaro family viticulture and a consulting winemaker with Solaia and Tignanello on his résumé—that combination explains why this Chianti Riserva punches above its weight. Stefano di Blasi brings the technical rigor he honed at Antinori to Fattoria Il Muro, an estate tucked in the hills above the Castro stream valley where the family has quietly farmed Sangiovese since the early 1800s. The result is a Riserva that respects tradition while benefiting from the kind of precision usually reserved for Super Tuscans. The vineyards sit near the Alpe di Poti, where strong diurnal temperature swings preserve the acidity that keeps Sangiovese lively while concentrating the fruit. Galestro—Chianti's signature schisty limestone—runs through the estate, lending a mineral backbone that grounds the wine's ripe fruit. Aging happens in large oak barrels rather than barriques, so you get structure and integration without the oak taking over the varietal character. Di Blasi's involvement means every decision, from canopy management to barrel selection, is calibrated to let the site speak clearly. In the glass, expect ripe mulberry, roasted coffee bean, and dark chocolate from the extended barrel aging. The palate is velvety but structured, with the grip and concentration a Riserva should deliver and a finish that showcases Sangiovese's characteristic tangy edge. This is the kind of wine that improves with an hour of air or a quick decant if you're drinking it young. Pair it with bistecca alla fiorentina, aged pecorino, wild boar ragù, or grilled portobello mushrooms—anything with enough heft to match the wine's structure. It's a serious Chianti that doesn't ask you to ignore its traditional roots but doesn't lean on them as an excuse for rusticity either. Off Premise carries it in Lincoln Park, and it's a strong choice if you want a Riserva with both pedigree and restraint.
