Jin Jiji Darjeeling India Dry Gin
$38.00
From the mist-shrouded foothills of the Himalayas comes one of India's most captivating and culturally rooted gins — a spirit that takes its name from the Nepali and Tibetan word for grandmother, a nod to the generations of knowledge, tradition and care that underpin both the tea gardens of Darjeeling and the ethos of the distillery itself. Jin Jiji is made at the Darjeeling distillery using a base of Indian grain spirit, with a botanical bill that draws deeply and unapologetically from its extraordinary surroundings. At the heart of the recipe is first flush Darjeeling tea — arguably the world's most prized — which lends the gin a floral, muscatel character that is impossible to replicate anywhere else on earth. Alongside the tea, a considered selection of local and traditional botanicals including juniper, cardamom, ginger, coriander and Himalayan herbs weave together to create something entirely its own. The result in the glass is a gin of rare elegance and specificity of place. Pale and crystal clear, the nose rises with an extraordinary delicacy — the unmistakable muscatel grape and white flower character of first flush Darjeeling tea lifting above fresh juniper, lemon zest and warm spice. It is perfumed and precise, with a complexity that rewards time in the glass. On the palate it is silky and refined — the tea character carrying through beautifully, underpinned by bright citrus, gentle cardamom and ginger warmth, and a clean, dry juniper backbone that keeps the gin firmly in classic territory despite its unique identity. The finish is long, floral and gently spiced, fading gracefully with a whisper of Himalayan terroir.
