Marchelle "Tritone Cuvée" Chardonnay

$26.00
Winemaker Evan Damiano built Marchelle Wines around a deceptively simple philosophy: blend with the same principles musicians use to create tension and release. The Tritone Cuvée takes its name from an interval in music theory, the Devil's Interval, a dissonant chord that demands resolution. Here, that translates into sourcing Chardonnay from three distinct coastal California counties, each contributing its own character to a wine that's structured more like a composition than a single-site statement. The blend pulls from five family-owned, organic or sustainably farmed vineyards across 300 miles of coastline. Mendocino anchors nearly 70% of the wine, with fruit from Manchester Ridge and Haiku delivering crisp acidity and mineral backbone. Santa Barbara's Bien Nacido contributes just under 20%, adding floral lift and subtle tropical notes. Sonoma rounds out the final 12% through Lorenzo and Black Knight vineyards, bringing textural depth and resonance to the finish. Damiano ferments with native yeasts and ages the wine for 13 months in French oak, around 30% new, but the approach is hands-off and restrained. The oak registers as structure rather than flavor, framing the wine without dominating it. What you get is steely and precise, driven by generous acidity and a lees-textured mouthfeel that gives the wine real presence on the palate. Expect lemon zest, white peach, nectarine, and wet stone, all building toward a long, saline finish. This isn't a rich, buttery Chardonnay. It's built on tension, the kind of wine that rewards attention and holds up beautifully at the table. At 13.8% alcohol, it's restrained enough to pair with delicate preparations like grilled trout with herbs, oysters on the half shell, or roasted chicken with lemon and capers, but it has the structure to handle richer dishes like lobster risotto or pork chops with mustard cream. At Off Premise, we carry it because it delivers complexity and thoughtfulness well beyond its price, a coastal California Chardonnay that treats terroir as a conversation rather than a single voice.
