Tequila Ocho Teq Reposado 80 750ML

Tequila Ocho built its reputation on a principle most tequila brands ignore: terroir matters, and vintage dating proves it. Founded by Carlos Camarena (whose family has distilled agave for three generations at La Alteña) and the late Tomas Estes, Ocho is the only tequila made from single-estate agave, harvested from specific, named ranchos in Jalisco's Los Altos highlands and labeled by harvest year like wine. The Reposado spends a brief, deliberate eight weeks in ex-bourbon barrels — just enough to round the edges without burying the agave underneath a wall of oak. That restraint is the whole point. Where a lot of reposados chase vanilla and caramel at the expense of the plant itself, Ocho keeps the highland agave character front and center: cooked agave sweetness, citrus peel, and a soft herbal note, with the barrel contributing light vanilla, baking spice, and a gentle golden color rather than dominating the profile. The finish is clean and warm, not hot, which makes this a tequila you can sip slowly rather than one built purely for mixing. It still makes an excellent cocktail base — a Oaxaca Old Fashioned or a simple reposado Paloma will show off the barrel influence nicely — but it's distinctive enough to drink neat or on a single large rock, which is how we'd point most people toward it first. On the table, it holds up well against grilled pork, carnitas, charred elote, or aged cheeses like manchego, where the agave sweetness and light oak have something to play off of. Because each batch is tied to a specific harvest, flavor can shift subtly from vintage to vintage — part of what makes Ocho worth returning to rather than a one-and-done purchase. We keep it in regular rotation at Off Premise for exactly that reason: it's a reposado that rewards attention rather than asking you to drown it in mixers.
