Caña Dura Marcos López – The Rums of Mexico Cosautlán de Carvajal, Veracruz 700 ml | 52.3% ABV (104.6 Proof) Caña Dura (also known as Caña Fierro) is an unaged Mexican aguardiente distilled from the resilient, pale yellow-green sugarcane variety most commonly grown in the Cosautlán de Carvajal region of Veracruz. Crafted by fourth-generation aguardientero Marcos López, this spirit is produced using fresh-pressed cane juice and distilled in a traditional five-plate continuous still made of stainless steel and copper. Marcos, a true renaissance farmer, also cultivates coffee, limes, and citrus honey alongside his sugarcane — continuing a family legacy passed down from his grandfather and father. This expression captures the pure, distinctive character of one of Veracruz’s most prized local cane varieties. Tasting Notes Nose: Salty and savory with aromas of tapenade, cucumber, watermelon, capers, and lime. Palate: Notes of nectarine skin, golden apples, honey, oat bran, and damp rocks. Caña Dura delivers a unique savory, mineral-driven profile with bright fruit and subtle sweetness — a true reflection of its terroir and traditional Mexican distillation methods. Excellent for sipping neat or over ice, and it brings fascinating complexity to bold cocktails. A standout choice for rum lovers exploring authentic, small-batch Mexican cane spirits.
