Thomas Farge Saint-Joseph Cote Du Pouly

$68.00
Thomas Farge Saint-Joseph Côte du Pouly is a single-vineyard Northern Rhône Syrah grown on pure decomposed granite in one of the appellation's most distinctive parcels. Ecocert-certified organic farming and extended maceration produce a wine that balances serious ripeness with the mineral precision granite soils impart. The 2022 vintage spent twelve months in a mix of older 400-liter barrels and a 3,000-liter foudre before two months in tank to integrate before bottling. Thomas Farge works a small family domaine in the heart of Saint-Joseph, farming sustainably on the steep granite slopes that define the appellation's backbone. The Côte du Pouly vineyard sits on decomposed granite, which delivers the stony minerality and floral lift characteristic of Northern Rhône Syrah. Farge employs a pre-fermentation cold soak to coax color and aromatics, then extends maceration for gentle extraction without overworking the skins. The wine sees no new oak, only neutral barrels and foudre, which allows the site and the fruit to speak without interference. The nose offers explosive blackberry and elderberry fruit, but the palate is focused and cool rather than heavy. Concentration is checked by a mineral thread that runs through the wine, and the tannins are fine-grained and confidently dry. The finish is stony and spicy, the hallmark of granite-grown Syrah in this part of the Rhône Valley. This is a wine that works now with grilled lamb, duck breast, or anything coming off a wood fire, but it will also reward five to seven years of cellaring if you can wait. Decant an hour ahead if drinking young. In stock at Off Premise in Lincoln Park.
