The domaine has been owned by the Devillard family since 1996, and the family's focus on estate fruit and minimal intervention in the cellar lets the terroir speak clearly. Domaine des Perdrix farms seventeen hectares in Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru and village-level parcels, with vines averaging thirty years of age rooted in clay-limestone soils that drain quickly and retain enough moisture to preserve freshness even in warm years. The domaine ferments in open-top wooden vats with indigenous yeasts, and ages the wine in French oak barrels for twelve to fifteen months, using a modest percentage of new wood to avoid overpowering the fruit. The Devillard family also owns Château de Chamirey in the Côte Chalonnaise and Domaine de la Ferté in the Mâconnais, but Perdrix remains their Côte d'Or flagship. The 2020 opens with matured red fruit—cherry and raspberry that have settled into a deeper register—alongside licorice and a hint of forest floor. The palate is serious and well-built, with integrated tannins that frame the wine without dominating it, and the finish stays fresh despite the concentration.
