2020 Domaine Douhairet-Porcheret Monthélie "Clos du Meix Garnier" Monopole
$60.00
Domaine Douhairet-Porcheret is a genuinely storied estate, over 300 years old, headquartered behind the Church of Monthélie in the heart of the Côte de Beaune, with 8 hectares spread across Monthélie, Pommard, Volnay, and Meursault. The Douhairet family ran the estate for generations before Mademoiselle Douhairet, upon her passing, entrusted it to renowned winemaker André Porcheret, one of Burgundy's most respected and occasionally controversial figures, who served as cellar master at the Hospices de Beaune and later helped launch Domaine Leroy alongside Lalou Bize-Leroy. His granddaughter, Cataldina Lippo, joined him in 2004 and now runs the estate with her partner Vincent, bringing renewed energy and a touch of modern refinement while preserving the domaine's traditional roots. The vineyards are farmed organically, without herbicides or pesticides, and hand-harvested. Clos du Meix Garnier is the domaine's monopole, a single, wholly-owned walled parcel entirely in Douhairet-Porcheret's hands, made from 100% Pinot Noir. In the cellar, the fruit is fully destemmed and undergoes a gentle, old-school fermentation and maceration before aging 18 months in barrel, with only about 10% new, medium-plus toast oak, letting the site's character lead rather than the wood. Expect a light to medium body that belies real structural depth and concentration, with an aromatic nose of strawberry, blackberry, and violet plume, layered with subtle spice. On the palate, delicate acidity meets smooth, velvety tannin, with berry and floral flavors moving seamlessly across the tongue toward a refined, elegant finish, further deepened by real mineral complexity. It's an estate wine critics have consistently praised for its fleshy elegance balanced against genuine minerality, and a true rarity given its monopole status and the domaine's tiny overall production.
