Bodega Divina Proporcion "24 Mozas" Toro DO

$25.00
Divina Proporcion is a family winery founded in 2009 by Maximo San Jose and Ana Alonso just outside the city of Toro in the province of Zamora, Castilla y Leon. The name is a nod to the golden ratio, the mathematical principle of perfect proportion, and it shapes everything from their philosophy to their label design. The winery farms 22 hectares of their own certified organic vineyards plus roughly 50 more under their control, spread across elevations between 600 and 900 meters along the high Duero plateau. The grape they work with exclusively for their reds is Tinta de Toro, the thick-skinned, intensely colored local strain of Tempranillo that has adapted over centuries to this extreme continental climate and the region's sandy, stony soils. "24 Mozas" pays homage to the city of Toro and its folk traditions. The name comes from the beloved local copla "Tio Babu," a song that tells the story of a traditional Torosan wedding attended by 24 young women from the village. It is made from Tinta de Toro vines at least 40 years old, harvested by hand, and aged six months in American oak barrels before bottling. Deep garnet in the glass with a vivid purple rim. The nose is expressive and generous, with ripe blackberry, plum, and dark cherry fruit alongside notes of coconut, clove, and warm spice from the American oak. On the palate it is dry, full-bodied, and flavorful, with lively tannins, good structure, and a spicy, persistent finish with a hint of licorice. Toro in a bottle: powerful, honest, and built for the table. Pour it alongside roast lamb, game, hearty stews, or aged Castilian cheese.
