This isn't the jammy fruit-forward style—it's taut, savory, and built to evolve over the next few years in the cellar. Elaine Walls sources from a handful of growers farming centenarian-adjacent vines on basalt and loess soils in the Columbia Valley AVA, where the combination of cold nights and relentless summer sun concentrates phenolics without losing acidity. The fruit is destemmed and fermented on native yeasts in neutral vessels, then aged in a combination of neutral French oak and concrete to preserve the grape's inherent structure. Walls uses minimal sulfur and no fining, which allows the wine's texture and aromatics to remain unfiltered and expressive. The result is a Tempranillo that reads more Rioja Alta than New World fruit bomb. The wine opens with dark plum, black cherry, and dried fig, layered with tapenade, iron, lavender, and a hint of cured game.
