2023 Domaine Cruchandeau – Saint-Aubin 1er Cru ‘L’Amandier’

$92.00
The 2023 Domaine Cruchandeau Saint-Aubin 1er Cru 'L'Amandier' is a certified organic Chardonnay from one of Burgundy's most compelling terroirs, where steep chalky slopes and limestone-rich soils deliver the tension and minerality that define great Côte de Beaune whites. Winemaker Julien Cruchandeau, a former cellar master in Nuits-Saint-Georges, blends fruit from two Premier Cru parcels—La Chatenière, a south-facing slope that brings richness and ripeness, and Les Champlots, positioned higher on the hillside for finesse and freshness. Saint-Aubin sits just behind the famous villages of Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet, long considered Burgundy's best-kept secret for Premier Cru quality without the inflated prices. Cruchandeau has farmed organically since 2011 and now holds full Ecocert certification, emphasizing biodiversity and soil health across his parcels in Lincoln Park's favorite under-the-radar Burgundy appellation. The 43-year-old vines are deeply rooted in white clay and limestone, harvested by hand and fermented with native yeasts before aging twelve months on fine lees in French oak, twenty percent new. His approach prioritizes letting each site express its natural balance and purity, a philosophy that translates directly into the glass. The result is a wine of texture, precision, and vibrant minerality—a pure expression of cool-climate Chardonnay grown on some of the Côte de Beaune's most dynamic slopes. The 2023 vintage opens with aromas of white flowers, citrus zest, and crushed almond, followed by hints of chalk and brioche. The palate is both silky and vibrant, layering flavors of pear, lemon curd, and hazelnut over a shimmering mineral core, with a touch of salinity that carries through a long, elegant finish. Poised and energetic, this Saint-Aubin 1er Cru captures the understated beauty of its terroir—drink it now for its youthful brightness or cellar for five to seven years to reveal deeper texture and complexity. Pair it with roasted chicken, seared scallops, or a soft-ripened cow's milk cheese to let the wine's tension and salinity shine.
