2025 Tenuta delle Terre Nere Etna Bianco
$42.00
Terre Nere, the benchmark estate for volcanic Etna wine, produces this Bianco from organically farmed vines on Mount Etna's north-facing slope, built primarily around Carricante, Sicily's most distinctive native white grape, often joined by small amounts of Catarratto, Grecanico, and Minnella. The vines grow on soils of volcanic ash and pumice at meaningful altitude, giving the wine its signature tension and mineral drive even in warm Sicilian sunshine. Consistent with recent vintages from the estate, expect a pale straw color with silvery highlights, and an aromatic profile built around citrus (lemon peel, Meyer lemon), orchard and stone fruit (green pear, white peach), and white flowers (acacia, Spanish broom), all threaded through with the estate's hallmark smoky, saline, volcanic minerality. On the palate, it should show a light to medium body, vibrant, racy acidity, and a long, dry, mineral-driven finish, prioritizing freshness and precision over overt fruitiness or richness. It's built to pair with the same range of dishes as its recent vintages: shellfish, grilled white fish, citrus-marinated seafood, and herb-forward Sicilian cooking, especially anything built around olive oil, fennel, capers, and fresh Mediterranean herbs. Given the consistency of this cuvée from year to year, it should offer an excellent, textbook expression of Carricante's high-acid, saline, volcanic character.
