Can Sumoi Garnatxa Blanca

The Garnatxa Blanca is the newest addition to the Can Sumoi lineup and one of the most compelling arguments for why altitude matters in white wine. First produced in 2022 after Pepe Raventós and Francesc Escala spent several vintages exploring the Prelitoral mountain range alongside local growers, the wine is sourced from two exceptional parcels: Vinya Gran in Pla de Manlleu and La Galzeranna in Querol, the latter sitting at nearly 700 meters above sea level on the northern slopes of Montmell, farmed by Anna Llena and her family. Vines range from 25 to 60 years old, planted on limestone soils where cool nights, mountain breezes carrying a trace of sea air, and the slow accumulation of heat conspire to produce fruit of real aromatic precision. One hundred percent Garnatxa Blanca, harvested by hand on fruit and flower days according to the biodynamic calendar, pressed gently in an inert atmosphere to preserve freshness, and fermented slowly with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel. No wood, no additives, no filtration. The result is taut and transparent: a bright, clear yellow with an elegant nose of fresh grape, loquat, crisp apple, yellow plum, rose petal, and subtle dried herbs. The palate is weightier than you might expect, with a savory, almost unctuous texture balanced by lively acidity and a clean, pleasantly bitter finish that is entirely the grape's own character. Unoaked and unpretentious, but precise and deeply satisfying.
