CARM Douro Tinto Reserva
$30.00
CARM Douro Tinto Reserva is an organic red blend from Portugal's Douro Valley, built on Touriga Nacional and Tinta Roriz, the two grapes that anchor the region's most structured wines. The estate vineyards sit on schist slopes where vines root deep into fractured rock, yielding concentrated fruit and mineral-driven structure. Casa Agrícola Roboredo Madeira—CARM—has farmed organically since the estate's founding, and the wine is certified vegan, a rarity in traditional Portuguese cellars where fining agents often include animal proteins. CARM has been in the Roboredo Madeira family for generations, passing from father to son in the traditional Douro model, and the estate holds SATIVA organic certification. The Douro Valley's extreme climate—scorching summers, thin soils, terraced vineyards carved into hillsides—produces wines of density and power, and CARM leans into that character. Touriga Nacional contributes inky tannins and floral lift; Tinta Roriz brings red-fruit acidity and backbone. The blend is fermented in stainless steel to preserve freshness, then aged in neutral oak to let the fruit and schist minerality speak without overlay. The wine is rich and full-bodied, with ripe tannins underneath succulent blackberry fruit. It's still young—structured enough to hold another five years in the cellar—but approachable if you decant for an hour. Pour it alongside grilled lamb chops, braised short ribs, or a wedge of aged Manchego. The acidity and tannin cut through fat and handle char from the grill, and the fruit sweetness softens the wine's firm spine as it opens. In stock at Off Premise in Lincoln Park.
