Jasci Trebbiano d'Abruzzo
$20.00
Jasci's 2023 Trebbiano d'Abruzzo comes from organically farmed vineyards in Italy's Abruzzo region, where the Adriatic coast tempers the inland climate and anchors the region's mineral-driven whites. Trebbiano d'Abruzzo—the varietal—has a reputation for neutral simplicity in bulk bottlings, but producers like Jasci work small parcels and short maceration windows to pull aromatic complexity and texture from the same vines. This is the brighter, saltier side of Italian white wine, shaped by limestone soils and sea air. The Jasci estate sits in the hills above Pescara, where diurnal temperature swings preserve acidity while the grapes ripen. Organic viticulture here means no synthetic inputs, so the vine roots dig deeper into the calcareous subsoils that define Abruzzo's terroir. After hand-harvest, the fruit undergoes a cold soak to extract aromatics, then a slow, temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel. The goal is to preserve the wine's lifted floral and fruit profile while allowing the mineral backbone to emerge. Minimal intervention in the cellar lets the site and the vintage speak. The 2023 vintage opens with white florals—jasmine and orange blossom—over layers of tropical fruit, green apple, and a whisper of vanilla that likely comes from lees contact rather than oak. Midpalate, you get ripe orchard fruit balanced by a spicy, almost peppery note, then a briny, mineral finish that tastes like the coast. Medium-bodied and dry, it's structured enough for food but easy enough to drink on its own. Pair it with seafood Alfredo, grilled branzino, clam linguine, or a simple plate of fried calamari with lemon. Serve it well-chilled—45 degrees—and it will show best over the next two years.
