Vecchio Amaro Del Capo

The flagship amaro from the Fratelli Caffo distillery in Limbadi, deep in the toe of southern Italy. Built on a neutral spirit macerated with 29 Calabrian botanicals — sweet and bitter oranges, tangerine, chamomile, juniper, licorice, anise, mint, and hyssop among them — each infused separately to capture its truest character, then married and rested before bottling. Aromas of mandarin peel, mint, anise, and cinnamon bark lead into a palate of bitter orange, clove, licorice, and a touch of spicy juniper, with chamomile and allspice on the long, shifting finish. Approachable and food-friendly rather than punishingly bitter. Calabrians drink it ice-cold straight from the freezer, but it's equally at home at room temperature, over ice, or in cocktails (it makes a killer Paper Plane riff). 35% ABV.
