2025 Alphonse Mellot 'Moussiere' Sancerre
$60.00
The 2025 Alphonse Mellot 'Moussiere' Sancerre is benchmark Sauvignon Blanc from one of the Loire Valley's most storied families, grown on the silex flint and limestone soils that define the appellation. The Mellot family has been documented in Sancerre since the sixteenth century, making this one of the oldest continuous winegrowing operations in the region. La Moussière is their flagship bottling — the wine that has introduced generations of drinkers to what this corner of France does best. The Mellot domaine sources fruit for La Moussière from estate vineyards planted on a mix of silex and limestone, the two soil types that give great Sancerre its characteristic mineral backbone and flinty edge. The fruit is hand-harvested and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel to preserve the pure expression of Sauvignon Blanc from these ancient soils. The winemaking is designed to let the terroir speak — no oak, no tricks, just the tension of limestone and the unmistakable snap of flint that sets Sancerre apart from generic Sauvignon Blanc grown anywhere else. The 2025 vintage shows classic notes of grapefruit, lemon zest, and white flowers, with that flinty minerality running through the core. On the palate it's crisp and focused with excellent tension, a silky mid-palate, and a long, clean finish that keeps you coming back. It's a perfect match for oysters on the half shell, fresh goat cheese from the Loire, grilled fish, or simply as an aperitif on a warm evening. This is Sancerre that works equally well for lovers of the appellation and anyone ready to understand what all the fuss is about. In stock at Off Premise in Lincoln Park.
