The grapes are harvested in two passes to capture optimal ripeness, a deliberate choice that gives the wine both structure and precision. The result is a rosato that sits comfortably between the crispness of a white Pinot Grigio and the fuller body of a true rosé, with the texture and savory edge that come from clay-rich soils at the foothills of the Carnic Alps in northeastern Italy. The estate was founded in 1977 by the Paladin family in Annone Veneto, a pocket of the Veneto that borders western Friuli and was once covered in oak forests—the name Bosco del Merlo translates to "woods of the blackbird." Today the winery is run by third-generation cousins Francesca and Martina Paladin, who have earned Equalitas certification, one of Italy's most rigorous sustainability standards covering environmental, social, and economic practices across the entire operation. The Pinot Grigio Rosato is part of the estate's Life in Rose initiative, with a portion of proceeds donated annually to breast cancer research and healthy lifestyle programs. The color is a deep copper with a soft pink blush. The nose is fragrant and precise, with dried flowers, Williams pear, and wild strawberry woven together with a quiet mineral underpinning from the clay soils.
