Harahorn Norwegian Small Batch Gin
$42.00
Harahorn takes its name from a creature of Norwegian folklore, a hare with great moose horns, the Scandinavian cousin of the American Jackalope. It is produced by Det Norske Brenneri in Grimstad on Norway's southern coast, crafted in batches of just 300 liters with meticulous hand-weighing of every ingredient. The gin draws on nearly two dozen botanicals, the majority wild foraged from specific corners of Norway: juniper from the mountain plateau of Røros, blueberries from the forests of Nordmarka, rhubarb from abandoned mountain farms in Hemsedal, bladderwrack seaweed from the coast at Grimstad, angelica root from Oppdal, and wild marjoram from Sunndal. It is bottled at 46% ABV without chill filtration. The nose is clean and inviting, with soft juniper leading into earthy angelica, lemon, rhubarb, and a whisper of anise. On the palate it is layered and complex, opening with classic juniper and spice before transitioning into a fruit-driven heart of wild blueberry, tart rhubarb, lemon zest, and a subtle jammy berry quality. A saline edge from the seaweed runs quietly underneath, adding depth without calling attention to itself. The finish is warm, dry, and long, with juniper returning alongside a gentle menthol coolness and a peppery bite of marjoram. Harahorn bridges the contemporary and the classic with real confidence. It shines in a gin and tonic with a light citrus tonic, is excellent in a Last Word or Alaska, and holds its own in a Martini for those who like a little fruit alongside their juniper.
